CVE-2025-47812: Wing FTP Server Improper Neutralization of Null Byte or NUL Character Vulnerability

Advisory generated from the CVE record, CISA, Exploit Observer and VEDAS: what it is, whether it is exploited, who is affected, and how to fix and detect it.

Generated by VEDAS. Scores as of 2026-11-01 19:19 UTC. Rebuilt every few hours from cve-scores, CISA KEV and vedas-signatures. How this works and its limits.

What it is

In Wing FTP Server before 7.4.4. the user and admin web interfaces mishandle ‘\0’ bytes, ultimately allowing injection of arbitrary Lua code into user session files. This can be used to execute arbitrary system commands with the privileges of the FTP service (root or SYSTEM by default). This is thus a remote code execution vulnerability that guarantees a total server compromise. This is also exploitable via anonymous FTP accounts.

Description quoted from the CVE record (assigned by mitre, published 2025-07-10).

Weakness: CWE-158 Improper Neutralization of Null Byte or NUL Character

How it can be exploited

Exploitable over the network with low attack complexity needing no privileges and no user interaction. Impact: confidentiality high, integrity high, availability high. CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H

CISA assessment (SSVC): CISA assesses exploitation as active. Automatable: yes. Technical impact: total.

Wingftp - Remote Code Execution

In Wing FTP Server before 7.4.4. the user and admin web interfaces mishandle ‘\0’ bytes, ultimately allowing injection of arbitrary Lua code into user session files. This can be used to execute arbitrary system commands with the privileges of the FTP service (root or SYSTEM by default).

Name and description quoted from the template, written by VEDAS.

The template sends 2 requests (POST /loginok.html, GET /dir.html); it decides using dsl matchers. Severity in the template: critical. Marked as not yet verified against a live vulnerable target.

Run it against a host you own or are authorised to test:
