What happened
- The Singapore High Court sanctioned the creditor-approved scheme of Zettai Pte Ltd (WazirX’s parent) with modifications, announced 13 Oct 2025. About USD 234M was stolen in July 2024, about 4.3M users were affected and the theft involved nearly 45% of funds on the platform. An August 2025 revote passed with 95.7% of creditors (94.6% by value) after the court rejected an earlier plea in July 2025 (Inc42).
- Root cause: the July 2024 intrusion is outside this window and was not re-examined here.
- Attacker: founder Nischal Shetty said North Korea’s Lazarus Group was involved (as reported by Inc42).
- Response: the sanction allows token distributions; WazirX said it would restart operations within 10 business days of the scheme taking effect and announced a custody partnership with BitGo. No Indian regulator action reported in the source.
