What happened
- In a 20 Oct 2026 notice signed by Mark Earnest, the district said “On Monday, October 19, 2026, Seminole County Schools identified unusual activity affecting portions of its information technology environment” and reported “an ongoing disruption affecting certain District technology systems.”
- Root cause: not disclosed.
- The district named no attacker; DysruptionHub reported that the group Global Secret Group listed “Seminole Schools” claiming 39.6 GB across 54,468 files, but said the listing “conflates school districts in three states”, so the claim is unconfirmed for this district.
- The district took certain systems offline as a precaution and brought in outside cybersecurity specialists; it said “right now we do not know whether any information was affected.”
