What happened
- The district said it received a warning from the Brandenburg Ministry of the Interior on 20 Oct 2026 at 19:22 about a possible compromise of an IT client, and shut down all technical systems that evening; there has been no email since 20 Oct, online services and specialist applications are unavailable, and vehicle registration and driving-licence processing were halted.
- Root cause: not disclosed; the district said it is still open whether unauthorized access actually occurred, and as of 26 Oct it could neither confirm nor deny that data was exfiltrated.
- No attacker named.
- Internal IT and external experts are checking the systems; as of 30 Oct staff still could not work digitally, and some vehicle and licence services were moved to neighbouring districts from 28 Oct.
