What happened
- I-CAD’s note (21 Oct 2026) says it was informed on 18 Oct of an incident from “fraudulent use of an access account assigned to the LOOF” (the feline pedigree registry); cat owners’ names and animal identification data may have been accessed. Per IT-Connect, the ministry cited 2.9 million records viewed; hacker ChimeraZ listed the data on 18 Oct and also claimed about 50,000 vets.
- Root cause: misuse of a partner organisation’s (LOOF) access account; how the account was obtained was not disclosed.
- Attacker: ChimeraZ claimed the data on a forum, per IT-Connect.
- I-CAD revoked the access, suspended associated services and notified the CNIL on 19 Oct. I-CAD says bank details, passwords, postal and email addresses, dog owners and vet data were not affected, contradicting the hacker’s vet claim.
