What happened
- The AfD told ZDF that “Im September 2026 kam es zu einem Hackerangriff auf einen Hosting-Dienstleister unserer Partei” and that parts of a few, mostly long-unused mailboxes were copied; current national office accounts were not affected. Unknown parties published data they say comes from ten mailboxes and about 421,000 emails (281 GB per Bild, cited by oe24); authenticity is unclear.
- Root cause: compromise of a hosting service provider (per AfD); provider and method not named.
- No attacker named; per dpa the anonymous publishing site was registered only in mid-October (ZDF).
- The party says the attack was stopped quickly and it will review the circulating documents.
